The Grass is Always Greener

I've spent a great portion of my life trying to convince other members of my family to clean up and make good decisions, namely  my kids and step-kids. The greater portion of these attempts have failed, and though I'm not an example of someone who has always lived a stellar life, I can say I've lived a pretty clean one. No infidelity, no addictions, no alcoholism, I'm no conman, not a thief, not a wife-beater or anything like that. In fact, others have often chided me as a good, clean, "all American boy", whatever that is.

Now that some of these "kids" to whom I tried to raise to the best of my ability are now adults, their "I'm smarter than you" attitude is catching up to them and now the piper is demanding payment, much to the distress of the collect-ee.

I don't like saying "I told you so", and I'd be much more pleased if I didn't, but I'm happy that, even though I, myself, have made foolish decisions, especially in my youth, I've not been stupid enough to do anything that calls my character into question.
